Our dream is to be the inspiration for ‘at risk' youth to lead a better life. And we believe that early intervention, from ages 9-16, can turn lives around.
We recognise that family support is a critical component of the process and that a collaborative, supportive and caring environment needs to be established at the family level.
TYLA has developed a collaborative community programme with proven results, having graduated many students through our programmes.
We work with a range of partner providers to structure individual programmes that best meet the needs of each TYLA member. Our ongoing evaluation and monitoring process ensures all preferred partner programmes operate to the highest possible standard and are individually effective.
The TYLA programme is instigated through local communities and is therefore shaped to meet the needs of each community it operates in. The programme is endorsed by the Government, supported by the New Zealand Police and engaged in by local communities.
Our Partners
We have identified four pillars which we believe are essential to an effective youth development programme. Each of our providers are selected based on their alignment with these pillars:
1. Whanau/family
2. Health
3. Wairua
4. Education
The TYLA team then works with community groups, programme providers and police to identify the best programme for each young person on our programme. Our assessment programme is objective and collaborative.
Our Trustees
Our Board of Trustees collectively bring the Trust a broad range of business and charity expertise, and have the highest level of support from the New Zealand Police.
We operate as a trust and are therefore bound by the standard governance of all charity programmes. However because we work closely with the Police and Government, our trustees, practices and protocols also undergo rigorous testing.
Our supporters
Like all trusts, TYLA relies on the support and generosity of corporate sponsors, government funding and local community support.
Since our inception ten years ago, TYLA has been fortunate to have captured the hearts and support of some of New Zealand's most inspirational businesses and individuals. Some of our supporters include:
