TYLA began 16 years ago in Avondale after a request to Rotary Club of Auckland from a Police Officer seeking funding to assist some young offenders in the community. With the support of the Rotarians, some finances and a keen Officer willing to provide programme activities, TYLA in its infancy was born.

Over the years TYLA has developed from a weekend programme of activities right through to a long-term, early-intervention youth development programme where young people are guided and supported by Social and Youth Workers in turning their lives around - right through until when they leave school and move into further training or a job.

A structure and framework has been developed so consistency and quality standards are assured. The TYLA Four Pillars of Whanau, Education, Health and Wairua are the key directives for the content of each of our programmes.
