TYLA stands for Turn Your Life Around.
The TYLA Youth Development Trust was established in 1996 to identify a better means of reducing the number of young offenders in New Zealand. In 1998 TYLA took on its first case.
Since then, we have helped over 500+ tamariki and rangatahi to turn their lives around. Today, we operate at two sites based in Otara and Central West Auckland.
We support tamariki and rangatahi with high-risk factors such as poverty, family harm and substance abuse, and who are greatly impacted by intergenerational trauma.
We work tirelessly to identify these at-risk youth who are on a pathway to crime.
We intervene early and work with the rangatahi, their whānau and local community to assist them in making positive, long-term choices and help to turn their lives around.
With referrals from Oranga Tamariki and the New Zealand Police, our TYLA team use a Therapeutic Mentoring approach with a Social Work lens to develop a comprehensive, bespoke plan for every child that crosses our path.
