Our sincere thanks to Auckland Rotary for their continued support of TYLA.
The relationship between TYLA and Rotary actually started 29 years ago!
In 1995 NZ Police were looking at rolling out youth development programmes throughout the country and at the same time Auckland Rotarian Charles Crotty disturbed a knife-wielding fourteen-year-old breaking into his business premises, intent on stealing money. However, instead of simply consigning the young person to the criminal justice system Charles listened to his story and made a choice to find out what was going on for this young person. This encounter meant that when a NZ Police officer spoke to Charles about needing to have further funds to fully establish a youth development programme in partnership with the Police, he jumped at the chance to source funding alongside another Rotarian Derek Brickall and in 1996 The TYLA Trust was established.
We have been blessed with the support from Rotary, in particular for the last two years we have been the main recipient of the proceeds raised from the World Press Photo Exhibition.
